Detectives hunting for a rapist who attacked two women on Milton Keynes redways have released images of a man they want to trace, with Detective Inspector Graeme Williams saying the man pictured "may have information that could help with our enquiries."
The first attack occurred on Wednesday 9 September, between 8.30pm and 9pm, when a man raped a woman in her thirties on a redway near the pedestrian bridge connecting Conniburrow and Milton Keynes.
Two weeks later, on the evening of Wednesday 23 September, a woman in her fifties was the target of an attempted rape on a Conniburrow redway, with the attack occurring just before 9.20pm.
Both women are being supported by officers, who remain in contact with them.
Redways are the network of shared pedestrian and cycle paths that run through Milton Keynes.
A 22-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, both from Milton Keynes, were arrested on suspicion of rape and attempted rape.
Both have been released from custody on conditional bail pending further enquiries.
Since the attacks were first reported, detectives have carried out a range of comprehensive enquiries, including house-to-house checks and CCTV scoping in the area.
The investigation has now produced images of a man believed to have information that could assist officers.
While the pictures are not clear, the hope is that someone who knows the man may recognise him — or that he may recognise himself in the images.
DI Williams, of Milton Keynes' Criminal Investigation Department, addressed local worries directly.
"I appreciate how concerned the local community may be to hear of these incidents, and want to assure you that detectives have been following every line of enquiry available," he said.
"Based on the information available to us at the current time, we do not believe these incidents to be linked to any other offences in the area," he added.
"Officers have been on patrol and will continue to carry out enquiries locally," Williams said, inviting residents to approach patrolling officers "with any questions, information or concerns you may have."
"I urge anyone with information to please phone 101 or report it online," the detective inspector said.
