- In court, the victim, now 20, told Shoaib Mohammed, 35: 'You took so much from me when I was 15.'
- Using the Snapchat handle 'shabzique91', Mohammed groomed her for seven months before persuading her to travel to Sheffield.
- Sheffield CCTV showed him checking into hotels alone before bringing the girl in after her parents reported her missing.
A man who searched online for 'grooming', 'Jimmy Savile' and 'Op Yewtree' while sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl he had groomed on Snapchat has been jailed for 11 years.
Shoaib Mohammed, 35, of Kentmere Drive, Doncaster, pleaded guilty to nine child sexual offences at Leicester Crown Court and was also made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for 15 years.
Mohammed first contacted the victim in April 2021, when she was just 14, using the Snapchat handle 'shabzique91'.
DC Daljinder Gill said: "He was in no doubt about her age" — yet he continued grooming her for seven months before persuading her to travel to Sheffield.
The abuse took place between 8 and 10 November 2021 across three days, with sexual activity occurring at two Sheffield hotels and in Mohammed's car.
The investigation was launched after the girl's parents reported her missing in late 2021. Upon discovering that police were searching for him, he left the victim at Sheffield train station, instructing her to return home and erase all their messages.
Mohammed was charged with five counts of sexual activity with a child, three counts of possession of indecent images of a child, and one count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
The victim, now 20, addressed Mohammed directly in court.
"I ask you to listen to me. Not as a case. Not as a collection of evidence but as the 15-year-old girl who was at the centre of this, and the 20-year-old woman who has spent the last five years and will spend the rest of her life having to live with it," she said.
She described preparing herself for trial only for Mohammed to plead guilty at the last moment: "I had prepared myself to once again rip the scab of a healing wound and let it bleed once more and then you pleaded guilty. And while that is a victory of acknowledgement that the evidence against you is substantial, I know the plea wasn't for anyone but yourself — that felt like another loss of power."
She closed by telling him directly: "You took so much from me when I was 15. You do not get to take this from me too."
Her mother also addressed the court, saying: "Five years is an incredibly long time to live with the uncertainty, stress and emotional weight of what has happened."
She said she felt she had "lost my daughter in many ways" and "lost precious time with her that I can never get back."
District Crown Prosecutor Nicola Potts said Mohammed "preyed on a young, vulnerable victim while posing as a caring friend and romantic partner," and that "his continued denials have taken years of work to bring him to justice as we built a case that stopped his lies in their tracks."
DC Gill described the victim's conduct throughout as "remarkable," saying she had shown "immense courage" from making her initial disclosure at 15 to "standing in court today as a woman and reading aloud the impact his offending has had on her."
Leicestershire Police's Child Exploitation Team is appealing for any further victims to come forward.
DC Gill said: "If anything about this case feels familiar to you, please come and speak to us. You will be listened to, taken seriously and supported."
