A 42-year-old man has been charged after a commuter was stabbed in the face and back at Brixton Underground Station in south London on Saturday afternoon.
Tyrone Rule, whose address is Hargwyne Street, Brixton, faces two charges stemming from the 24 October attack: grievous bodily harm with intent, and carrying an offensive weapon in a public place.
Rule appeared at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on 26 October, two days after the stabbing, and was remanded into custody.
His next hearing is scheduled for 23 November at Inner London Crown Court.
British Transport Police officers were called to Brixton Underground Station at 3.49pm on Saturday 24 October following reports of a stabbing.
Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from the Metropolitan Police.
A man was found at the station suffering from injuries, including wounds to his face and back.
Hospital staff examined the victim and determined that his injuries were not life-threatening or life-changing.
He has since been discharged from hospital.
On the day of the attack, police detained a man in his 40s, with the suspect facing allegations of grievous bodily harm with intent.
Detectives launched an investigation into the stabbing on the afternoon it happened, and the charges against Rule were brought two days later.
Investigators have confirmed that no other individuals are being sought in relation to the incident.
Enquiries into the stabbing are ongoing.
People who have information but have not yet been in contact with officers are urged to text British Transport Police on 61016, quoting reference 499 of 24 October.
Grievous bodily harm with intent is one of the most serious assault charges, reserved for cases where an attacker is accused of deliberately causing severe injury.
The second charge Rule faces concerns carrying a knife in a public place — specifically the blade he allegedly had on him during the attack at the Tube station.
Brixton Underground Station sits in south London and was busy with afternoon traffic when the stabbing unfolded just before 4pm on Saturday.
The case will now move from the magistrates' court to Inner London Crown Court, where more serious offences are heard, with Rule remaining in custody until the November hearing.
