A man who helped destroy the getaway car used in a Sheffield murder before spending nearly 20 years in Pakistan has been jailed for four years.

Mrs Justice Eady sentenced Faiser Hussain at the Crown Court sitting at Kingston upon Hull on 22 October 2026 for perverting the course of justice.

"Faiser Hussain, upon your plea of guilty, you have been convicted of the charge of doing an act tending and intended to pervert the course of public justice," the judge said. "It is now my responsibility to sentence you."

The case stemmed from a shooting on 3 June 2006 on Abbeyfield Road in the Burngreave/Pitsmoor area of Sheffield.

Gunman Mohammed Ali, then 24, fired multiple shots into the back of a silver Volkswagen Bora, killing 20-year-old Ibrahim Ilyas and injuring Kashif Nasim and Tahir Younis, both 21.

Ali used a blue Volvo, stolen a fortnight earlier and fitted with false plates, pulling a balaclava over his face before opening fire, the judge said.

Hussain pleaded guilty to one count of perverting the course of justice.

The stolen Volvo was taken to Psalters Lane, a semi-industrial area of Rotherham, and set on fire just after 6:00pm — roughly 20 minutes after the shooting.

Earlier that day Mohammed Ali was clearly heard making threats to kill: "That's it, you're dead, I'm gonna kill you."

Phone evidence showed Hussain called Ali's home landline at 5:53pm, then switched phones to call Ali's mobile at 5:53 and 5:54pm, before "dropping" that handset.

The judge found he was "obtaining instructions from him as to what you were to do to assist him to destroy evidence."

Hussain "immediately became part of a plan" that required "a high level of sophistication and co-ordination."

Passport stamps showed Hussain was in Pakistan by May 2007, according to the sentencing remarks.

"That you avoided returning to Great Britain for 20 years was, I am sure, because you were seeking to evade justice for your own involvement in the events following the shooting," she said.

He returned on 7 March 2026 and was arrested on re-entry at Manchester Airport.

The judge treated his "flight from justice in this country" as an aggravating feature of the offence.

Ali travelled to the North East after the burning and was arrested in Middlesbrough in the early hours of 4 June 2006.

He was convicted of murder and two attempted murders on 11 January 2007 and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 30 years.
