Arjan Purewal, Jaskaran Thandi and Hassan Jangheer, who were sentenced at Worcester Crown Court, were collected by police after attacking the student near Hagley.

A student was targeted by three men in a stranger rape attack in Clent, Worcestershire, resulting in the trio receiving a combined jail sentence of more than 20 years.

The trio were sentenced at Worcester Crown Court on Friday 9 October.

Ringleader Arjan Purewal, 23, of Wolverhampton Road, Oldbury, West Midlands, received a total of eight years and six months — seven years and six months for rape, one year concurrent for blackmail, one year consecutive for perverting the course of justice and eight months concurrent for possessing an identification document with improper intention.

Purewal was convicted after a trial in March 2025 and must sign the sex offenders register for life.

Further charges of conspiracy to rape a female and sexual assault on a female were ordered to lie on file.

Jaskaran Thandi, 23, of HMP Hewell in Redditch, was jailed for six years and four months for aiding and abetting rape, with two years concurrent for sexual assault.

Hassan Jangheer, 23, of Grenville Drive, Smethwick, West Midlands, received six years for aiding and abetting rape and two years concurrent for sexual assault.

The court imposed victim surcharges of £228 on each of the three men.

The men collected the student in Birmingham, travelling along Broad Street several times before making their way to the Clent Hills near Hagley in a silver-grey BMW.

Purewal orally raped the woman and filmed the attack on his mobile phone; Jangheer then compelled her to carry out a sexual act on him, after which Thandi sexually assaulted her.

The victim was then dumped "in the middle of nowhere," per the West Mercia Police release.

Officers were called to reports of a stranger rape on Vine Lane in Clent at around 3.30am on Saturday 16 September 2023. The victim described having been orally raped, and stated that those responsible had fled in a silver-grey BMW.

It is believed Purewal rented the BMW using another person's driving licence and ID documents, with the purpose of finding a victim and committing the rape — this forms the basis of the identification document charge.

Detective Inspector Warren Matthews said: "We welcome the result achieved at court. The behaviour of the perpetrators was appalling, and it is right that they are now behind bars."

"Their vile and predatory actions caused significant harm to the survivor, but we hope the sentencing helps on her path to recovery," he added.

Matthews said he hopes the outcome "provides reassurance to victims and survivors that when they come forward, they will be heard."

"We treat all reports seriously, investigate them thoroughly, and remain committed to bringing offenders to justice while supporting those affected throughout the process," he said.
