1.6 million Hoover and Candy tumble dryers could be fire risks, coroner warns after dad and daughter die in blaze
Coroner Martin Fleming has warned that about 1.6 million Hoover and Candy tumble dryers may share the characteristics of the model that most probably started the fire that killed Sohaib Ahmed, 38, and his nine-year-old daughter Manahal Nazir Ahmed in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire. A neighbour spotted smoke at 6.
Experts told the inquest the dryers 'may burn almost completely', destroying evidence of the initiating defect.
OPSS has received 'a significant number of product fire notifications' involving this model from UK fire services.
Fleming fears a 'potentially serious mechanism failure' that cannot be identified and 'cannot be readily prevented'.
