'A dangerous bluff': Carney makes a final plea as oil-rich Alberta prepares to vote on breaking away from Canada

Prime Minister Mark Carney has warned that 'some outside our borders are working to break us so they can own us'. That is a thinly veiled swipe at Donald Trump's vow to make Canada the 51st state. Monday's vote is nonbinding, a referendum on whether to hold a binding separation referendum. It is the first time Alberta has ever put the question of leaving to its people.
Carney himself has compared the vote to the referendum that took Britain out of the EU.
Voters face ten colour-coded ballots, including questions on immigration and voter ID.
A simple majority on question 10 could trigger a binding vote on leaving Canada.
