Man dies and girl, one, fights for her life after a van ploughs into their broken-down car in Hampshire

A 33-year-old van driver from Walsall was detained on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, then bailed with conditions until 4 December. The family's car had broken down on the southbound A34 near Sutton Scotney Services at 3.13pm on Friday. The man behind the wheel, who was in his 40s, died at the scene. A woman and a second child who were with him also sustained injuries.
A Mercedes Sprinter van hit the stationary Citroën Grand C4 Picasso at a point between Upper Bullington and Worthy Down.
Hampshire police confirmed that the dead man's next of kin have been informed.
Detectives say dashcam footage captured between 3pm and 3.20pm 'could be just as important' as the crash itself.
