A record 757 police officers are sacked and barred from policing, with 87 thrown out for sexual misconduct including rape
Dishonesty was the most common reason for the record dismissals, with 142 officers sacked on those grounds alone. The 757 total — the highest since the barred list launched in 2017 — is more than double the annual average of the preceding four years, according to the College of Policing.
Five officers were sacked specifically for rape, while discriminatory behaviour accounted for the removal of 110 others.
Since the barred list began in December 2017, a total of 3,591 officers have been permanently banned from serving.
