Dawood Safi, 28, stabbed Wayne Broadhurst 14 times in the head, neck, chest and back during a "frenzied, random and completely unprovoked" knife rampage in Uxbridge last October. Mrs Justice Cutts imposed an indefinite hospital order at Southwark Crown Court, meaning Safi can only be released if mental health specialists and the Ministry of Justice both agree it is safe. Safi, who also attempted to murder his landlord Shahzad Farrukh and stabbed a 14-year-old boy, was smuggled into the UK on the back of a lorry in 2020, lying about his age and claiming to be 17. He was subsequently granted asylum in 2022.

Broadhurst, a council street cleaner for Ealing Council, had the 'terrible misfortune' to walk his dog Harry past the house in Midhurst Gardens when he encountered Safi.

Neighbour Lara Wilsher called the killing 'preventable', blasting the Home Office for a 'complete failure' and insisting 'Wayne should still be here.'
