Africa CDC calls an Ebola crisis summit after Nigeria records its first case in a woman who arrived from Uganda
WHO health workers support Nigeria's efforts to contain the Ebola outbreak after a woman who arrived from Uganda went undiagnosed at a private Abuja hospital for eight days.
Africa CDC is convening an emergency Ebola summit after Nigeria confirmed its first case — a woman who arrived from Uganda. Symptoms appeared on October 7; she went to a private Abuja hospital on October 11 but did not receive an Ebola test until October 19. The 44 contacts under surveillance include her Swiss husband and mostly healthcare workers. Authorities are also tracing passengers from her Ethiopian Airlines flights. Health ministers are due to meet virtually on October 28.
Uganda maintains it has 'no confirmed active Ebola cases' and rejects the suggestion that the infection originated there.
The outbreak has claimed the lives of close to half of the more than 9,500 people it has infected.
The rare Bundibugyo strain behind the outbreak has no approved vaccine or treatment.
