Airbnb hosts threaten to quit and brand the new ban on making guests wash up and strip beds 'psycho'
More than 5,000 people have signed a Change.org petition demanding Airbnb reverse the rules, calling them 'unreasonable'. From November 20, hosts will be barred from requiring guests to wash dishes, strip beds, do laundry or take rubbish off-site. Guests can still be asked to put dishes in the sink and gather used towels. Petitioners warn hosts' cleaning bills will rise and be passed on in higher prices.
One host fears the change 'could potentially double my cleaners time' and invite vermin.
Repeat offenders face reduced listing visibility or a public warning notice to guests.
Petitioners argue: 'These are not professional cleaning duties.'
