Airbnb hosts will no longer be able to make paying guests strip beds or wash dishes under new rules

The crackdown covers stays booked from 20 November, ending years of complaints from guests charged cleaning fees of hundreds of dollars and still handed a chore list. Hosts may set seven standard house rules plus 'reasonable' requests. Jobs a cleaner would normally do, including taking rubbish offsite, will be off limits. Hosts will also be barred from imposing fines.

Guests can still be told to limit shower time where local drought restrictions apply.

Airbnb admitted its house rules had become 'confusing, onerous and hard to manage'.

Some hosts are reportedly furious at losing the power to set checkout chores.
