Airman dies after fatal fall during rappelling demonstration at UTSA football game as investigation launched

Ian Patterson, from Fort Stewart, Georgia, had served 15 years and was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base. He was one of four airmen fast-roping from the Alamodome rafters before Navy played UTSA on Saturday. He slipped, lost control and hit the turf, then died in hospital. The game went ahead after just a 10-minute delay, before his death was made public.

Witness Adrian Corey: 'Everybody was quiet, the band stopped performing.'

A military investigation into the fatal rappel is now underway.
