Albania's PM Edi Rama blames a foreign 'hybrid war' for a week of riots while professors march against police violence

Edi Rama has previously accused Russia and Iran of driving online misinformation, and says the unrest is rooted in 'genuine grievances' over living costs and housing. Hundreds of university professors marched in Tirana under a banner reading 'Stop violence against students'. Around 300 people have been injured, more than half of them police. Rama also hinted at a social media ban for under-16s.

Protesters have hurled petrol bombs, stones and fireworks at riot police in the capital.

Police have charged 388 people with criminal offences since the clashes began.

US Republican Keith Self blamed 'corrupt politicians' and 'total disregard for the rule of law'.
