Russell Brand's wife tells his rape trial he is an 'amazingly attentive husband' despite cheating on her when they dated
Russell Brand smiles in the dock as his wife gives evidence at Southwark Crown Court, having shown little emotion throughout the trial until that point.
Laura Brand, 39, took the stand at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday as a defence witness, telling jurors her husband Russell Brand, 51, had been "very caring" and had let their relationship progress "totally at my pace" from the start. She admitted the pair first split in February 2007 because it was "clear it was difficult for him to be monogamous," leaving her "a little heartbroken." They rekindled their romance in 2015 and married in 2017; they have three children together.
The trial was briefly halted after defence barrister Ian Winter KC attempted to ask Laura what she thought about the "truth of the allegations," drawing an objection from prosecutor Riel Karmy-Jones KC.
Laura revealed she is the sister of TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher and the daughter of Ryder Cup-winning golfer Bernard Gallacher, having first met Brand in August 2006 after her sister arranged show tickets.
Brand himself testified the day before, telling the court the allegations had taken a "devastating" toll and that consent was "fundamental, essential and necessary" in all his encounters.
