Amazon is close to finalising a major sponsorship deal worth millions with the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, plugging a gaping funding hole left when Boeing walked away after the last edition. The 2027 games, scheduled for 10-17 July in Birmingham, need around £20 million to stage the event for 550 wounded veterans from 25 nations competing in 12 adaptive sports.
Boeing's decision not to renew its backing after the previous games triggered a funding crisis that the Amazon deal is expected to resolve.
The deal would reportedly be 'a shot in the arm for Invictus and Harry', and Amazon — Netflix's chief rival — already runs major employment programmes supporting veterans.
The arrangement would reportedly significantly increase the chances of Meghan attending the Birmingham games, which will be the first on British soil since the inaugural London edition in 2014.
