Kyle Quin Schrock, 36, from San Diego, was left dangling over an abyss after the trail crumbled beneath him on October 11. A voice from above told him a helicopter was coming. He has a broken back, broken ribs and a broken sternum, and has been waiting in intensive care for spinal surgery. The former accountant quit his job to travel and now has 1.3 million Instagram followers.

'I thought it was my death,' Schrock said from his hospital bed, wearing an oxygen mask.

His sister-in-law Tara Schrock's GoFundMe had raised over $11,700 of its $30,000 goal.

Undaunted, he has vowed to 'get back out there and enjoy life again.'
