Amnesty names 87 Iranian officials for war crimes as victim's daughter demands Burnham bring them to justice

Amnesty International has concluded that Iranian authorities bear responsibility for crimes against humanity in their suppression of the 2022 Woman Life Freedom uprising, naming 87 officials it believes should face war crimes investigations. Released on the protests' fourth anniversary, the report records the deaths of 49 children, 45 cases of sexual violence in detention, and the use of torture and lethal force against demonstrators. Amnesty Secretary General Agnès Callamard has called on the Prime Minister, ahead of his visit to the UN next week, to push the General Assembly to take legal action. Mahsa Piraei, whose mother Minoo Majidi was killed by metal pellets fired by Iranian security forces in Kermanshah in 2022, spoke at a London press conference urging Andy Burnham to intervene.

Minoo Majidi was shot at close range as she fled officers 'repeatedly firing shotguns' just four days after the uprising began.

Iran is simultaneously hesitating to enforce its headscarf laws as war and economic pressure mount internally.
