Andrew Boff quits the Conservatives after 53 years over Badenoch's ECHR rule blocking his London mayor bid

The London Assembly chairman says a party that 'cannot tolerate support for fundamental human rights' has walked away from its own principles. Boff, a member since 1973, will now sit at City Hall as an independent London-wide member. Susan Hall of the City Hall Conservatives said she 'deeply regrets' his exit but stands firmly behind leaving the ECHR. Kemi Badenoch had ruled that dissenters 'cannot stand as a Conservative candidate'.
Boff insists the convention is no 'left-wing project', noting Churchill's Tories helped build it.
Frontrunner Sir James Cleverly doubts quitting the ECHR is a 'silver bullet' for borders.
