Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor faces losing the financial benefit of his Royal Lodge lease after the Crown Estate moved to find a private tenant for the 30-room Windsor mansion, with annual upkeep costs estimated at £400,000. He was evicted earlier this year following further revelations about his relationship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. His ex-wife Sarah Ferguson is reported to be eyeing a six-bedroom home with a £10,000 monthly price tag after returning to Britain.

Andrew paid £8million in 2003 for a 75-year lease but was served notice to surrender it after the Epstein revelations.

No member of the Royal Family has expressed interest in taking on the property, ruling out earlier rumours about King Charles or Queen Camilla.

Andrew technically retains the lease until the end of October, blocking renovations unless he agrees to hand it back a month early — which would shift running costs onto the Crown Estate.
