Andy Burnham defends his Gogglebox appearance as fans and critics clash, after Kemi Badenoch branded it a 'cringeworthy stunt'
Supporters and detractors have clashed over Andy Burnham's Celebrity Gogglebox turn, with LBC callers telling critics to 'find something else to moan about' as Burnham insisted he will 'make no apology' for trying to 'lead with a bit of lightness'. Tory leader Kemi Badenoch had accused Burnham of ducking the 'difficult stuff' while his government tells families to stockpile canned goods. On the No 10 sofa with Liverpool mayor Steve Rotheram, the PM quipped 'I'll be alright at the Budget' over a maths question. The Channel 4 special raised money for Stand Up To Cancer.
Burnham claimed politicians can 'spot the wrong'uns in the room' like Traitors players.
He said the Strictly theme gives him 'a pang of anxiety', recalling Ed Balls's dance.
Burnham fought back tears hearing how father Will, 41, died a week after his cancer diagnosis.
