Andy Burnham says he makes no apology for his Celebrity Gogglebox appearance after the Tory leader criticised it

Critics online branded the Prime Minister's sofa slot a 'cringeworthy stunt' and 'a lightweight PR move'. Andy Burnham became the first British leader on the Channel 4 show, drinking beer and eating pork scratchings beside Liverpool mayor Steve Rotheram. The one-hour Stand Up To Cancer special also featured Stanley Tucci, the Sugababes and Joe Lycett. Burnham said he was trying to 'lead with a bit of lightness'.
Burnham fought back tears listening to stories of people affected by cancer.
He joked about the Budget: 'I'll be alright at the Budget.'
A caller named Salome told his critics: 'Find something else to moan about.'
