Andy Burnham urges world leaders to unite on the cost of living after Trump's Republicans lose both houses of Congress
Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, try their hand at the steel drum in St John's, Antigua, after attending Chogm, where Burnham said his government had been pursuing closer ties with Europe to drive down living costs.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham, speaking at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua, called on world leaders to seize the moment after Democrats swept both the Senate and House of Representatives in a historic repudiation of President Trump. Burnham warned he cannot bring down household bills until the Iran war and Ukraine conflict are resolved, and demanded the Strait of Hormuz be fully reopened.
Trump accepted the results but told Fox News the losses surprised him: 'I thought they'd do better, we had tremendous rallies.'
Burnham declined to say whether the results marked a wider decline of the populist right, insisting his focus was laser-like on cost-of-living pressures.
Sadiq Khan hailed a 'true rejection' of Trump's politics, while Labour left-wingers argued the results proved immigration crackdowns were unpopular.
