Angela Rayner signals Labour's migration crackdown will be watered down after leading a Cabinet revolt against 'un-British' reforms

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood had floated forcing migrants to wait as long as 15 years for indefinite leave to remain, up from five now. Housing Secretary Rayner told Sky News that Mahmood would bring forward a system 'fair' to taxpayers and to migrants 'who work in our public services'. Rayner had earlier called the plans a 'breach of trust'. Labour MP Preet Kaur Gill is now urging colleagues to stop the infighting and back Mahmood in full.
Gill says Prime Minister Andy Burnham 'fully backs' his Home Secretary on the reforms.
Gill's message to Mahmood: 'Keep going. You are doing a phenomenal job.'
Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh reportedly tweeted support for Mahmood only after No 10 told her to.
