Anthropic turns a profit as quarterly revenue surges 45% to $16.8bn ahead of landmark IPO

Claude-maker Anthropic has reported its second consecutive quarter of adjusted profit, stunning prospective investors at a briefing in San Francisco on Wednesday. Revenue has rocketed from $4.7bn in Q1 to $11.6bn in Q2 and now $16.8bn in Q3 — a trajectory that analysts say could push annual revenue to $110bn by year-end. Dario Amodei and CFO Krishna Rao hosted the event as the company targets a valuation of over $2 trillion for its forthcoming stock market listing.
Anthropic's IPO is expected before the end of the year but may slip past November's US midterm elections.
The revenue surge comes as AI chip stocks tumble globally, with Nvidia, Samsung and SK Hynix all falling sharply on spending concerns.
Last year Anthropic lost more than $8bn on an operating basis — making back-to-back quarterly profits a dramatic reversal in fortunes.
