AOC warns she won't bow to Kamala Harris in 2028 race and says losing would end her career for good

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has made clear she will not defer to Kamala Harris or any other Democratic contender in a potential 2028 presidential run, saying "my decisions would not come down to deference." The 36-year-old congresswoman, the youngest woman ever elected to Congress, also said bluntly that if she ran and lost, "I would be done" with elected office altogether.
AOC, who holds a $16 million campaign war chest, said every option — the presidency, a Senate challenge to Chuck Schumer, or a House re-election — remains "within consideration."
Her warning puts her directly at odds with Harris, who is still reportedly weighing a 2028 run, while Gavin Newsom has already said he would stand aside if Harris entered the race.
AOC said she will decide after November's midterm elections, framing the moment as a rare window: 'You only get one shot.'
