Apple confirms a screen fault on its first foldable iPhone Duo as owners report cracks along the hinge within HOURS

Apple has acknowledged a display defect affecting a "small number" of iPhone Duo units, directing owners who have experienced the fault to reach out to AppleCare for a replacement device. Replacement stock, however, will not be available until January 2027, meaning some customers could face an extended wait. The issue has been nicknamed 'crackgate' by disgruntled buyers. The foldable handset starts at $1,999 (£1,499) and went on general sale on Friday.

A Reddit user reported that their screen shattered just three hours after buying the phone, despite having 'opened it maybe 20 times tops'.

Affected owners describe the hinge suddenly becoming stiff before an audible 'pop' produces a crack running down the central crease.

Apple had previously pledged that the Duo's distinctive hinge would deliver 'lasting reliability'.
