Apple has confirmed a hinge defect in the £2,000 iPhone Duo — its first foldable — after dozens of buyers reported the inner display cracking within hours of unboxing, with some owners hearing an audible crunch before large fractures appeared along the fold. Apple says it will replace any faulty unit. Repair specialists at iFixit believe a failing component inside the hinge is pressing directly into the screen, causing it to fracture.

One Australian owner's screen gave way in under six hours and after no more than 20 folds.

Apple's shares fell 1.1% on Monday and slipped further in premarket trading, while the broader tech sector was moving higher.
