Father kills teen gunman who shot dead three children and a teacher at Oregon primary school

A 16-year-old opened fire at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, murdering children aged five, eight and 11 and one teacher before a bystander — believed to be a father at the school — pursued him inside and shot him dead. Dispatch audio confirmed: 'It looks like the shooter has been neutralised, possibly shot by a father at the school.' A seven-year-old pupil and a 54-year-old teacher were rushed to St. Charles Bend Medical Center with critical injuries. The suspect forced entry by shooting through locked doors before officers arrived — just three minutes after the first 911 call.

The 16-year-old first shot into a vehicle outside the school before storming inside with a long gun.

Oregon Governor Tina Kotek thanked the community member who 'heroically intervened to stop further loss of life.'

A vigil has been held for victims as grieving parents rushed to a reunification centre at a local church.
