Armed police swoop on Bridgend retirement complex to arrest man, 61, on suspicion of murder after a crash driver dies

The 47-year-old woman from North Cornelly had suffered injuries 'unrelated' to the crash when her car hit a wall on Coity Road at 12.43pm on Monday. She died in hospital. Police then launched an overnight operation at Ger-y-Nant, a 13-flat sheltered complex for over-60s. The man was brought out at about 1am, and residents were displaced from their homes overnight.

Neighbour Darren Owen, 33, saw armed officers and 'swat teams climbing on to the roof'.

Ch Supt Jason Rees said the arrest was made with no further injuries sustained.

Residents were told to 'sign in and out' of their homes while the cordon stood.
