Army bomb squad blows up 'suspicious item' in Bristol city centre, but police say it was NOT a 'viable explosive'

A member of the public called Avon and Somerset Police at 8.25am on Friday after seeing a man apparently leave the item on Park Street. Restaurant worker Josh Squires said staff could see 'a white bollard with something strapped to it'. A 50m cordon shut Hill Street, St George's Road and Frogmore Street. The Army detonated the item just after 11am.

Pizzarova staff Josh Squires and Henry Yeomans were ordered out mid-prep for a busy Friday.

Roads reopened after the cordon came down around 2pm.

Police insisted it was 'right to take the precautionary approach' and thanked the caller.
