Around 20 homes and businesses are evacuated in Omagh after a digger strikes a mains gas pipe
A digger struck a mains gas pipe at the junction of Gortin Road and Strathroy Road in Omagh, triggering a major emergency response. Gortin Road is now shut where it meets Killybrack Road, and an evacuation zone extending 100 metres has been established. Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has opened Omagh Leisure Complex as an emergency support centre for displaced residents.
Those remaining in nearby homes have been told to keep windows and doors closed; strong winds are carrying the smell of gas up to a mile away.
Large numbers of police and firefighters are at the scene, with the PSNI asking the public to stay clear while emergency services deal with the incident.
