Arrest footage shows son, 18, chillingly calm after he hammered his captive mother to death

Tristan Roberts, 18, had spent weeks using artificial intelligence and dark web tools to plan the murder of his teaching assistant mother Angela Shellis, 45, before recording her four-hour ordeal in her bedroom. He lured her to Morfa Nature Park in Prestatyn, North Wales, on the pretence of letting her seek help, then beat her to death with a hammer and dumped her body in undergrowth. Dog walkers discovered her body that morning; Roberts was arrested outside his home at 1.20pm, calmly asking officers 'Am I detained or arrested?' Footage of that arrest features in a new Channel 4 documentary, '999: What Happened Next'.
Roberts, who hated women and was obsessed with violence, had bought knives, axes and hammers just ten days before killing Angela, who could barely walk after a knee injury.
Angela's sister Sarah Gunther raised the alarm after Roberts gave evasive, inconsistent stories about where Angela had gone, telling police: 'I think he's hurt her.'
Roberts was jailed for at least 22 and a half years at Mold Crown Court in March 2026.
