Arsenal set a new club record by selling Gabriel Martinelli to Al-Hilal for more than £55.7m

Arsenal have agreed to sell Martinelli, 25, to Al-Hilal for more than £55.7m, a new club record. The Brazil winger has been cleared to fly to Saudi Arabia for a medical after seven years at the Emirates. The fee surpasses the £35m Arsenal received from Liverpool for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in 2017. Club legend Ray Parlour endorsed the move, arguing the left side of the squad required new blood, and hinted that Gabriel Jesus could also depart before Tuesday's deadline.

Martinelli had already lost his starting berth to Leandro Trossard last season, and he was subsequently omitted from the squads for both the Community Shield and the Premier League opener against Coventry City.

Julian Alvarez, Arsenal's primary summer target, has reportedly informed Mikel Arteta that he has no interest in joining the club, leaving the Gunners without the marquee striker signing they were seeking as deadline day approaches.

Everton are said to be eyeing Monaco striker Folarin Balogun as backup cover for Richarlison; Balogun is an Arsenal academy graduate who reportedly became a source of controversy during this summer's World Cup.
