At least 62 people died and more than 40 were injured across Uttar Pradesh after three days of torrential rain battered the state, leaving close to 1,000 homes damaged. Rainfall from 25 to 27 September ran 775 per cent above normal levels, and 56 of the state's 75 districts recorded totals classified as "large excess". Authorities closed schools across multiple areas, among them the state capital Lucknow, and warned residents to stay away from fast-flowing rivers and streams. Water levels on the Ghagra and Rapti rivers continued to climb at a number of gauging stations, raising the risk of further inundation in low-lying areas.
Farrukhabad recorded the most extreme departure — rainfall ran 7,385 per cent above its seasonal average.
