Australian Border Force removes two Greenpeace activists from Woodside gas rig after they spent the night aboard

Two Greenpeace activists were removed in handcuffs after a police helicopter touched down on the 70,000-tonne floating platform at Woodside's Scarborough gas facility, located 375km off Karratha in Western Australia. The two had boarded the rig at around 5:45am on Saturday. Operations at part of the gas project were halted during the protest. Woodside said its staff, contractors and the police deployed to respond had been put at risk.

Greenpeace said no charges had been laid by Sunday afternoon.

The activists claim the gas drilling threatens nearby Scott Reef and its endangered species.

Greenpeace boss David Ritter hailed the pair as 'brave' and 'highly trained'.
