Australian Hyrox athlete Joanna Wietrzyk admits racing on after soiling herself in Beijing was 'the wrong decision'

Joanna Wietrzyk, 24, has broken a six-week silence over the incident at the Beijing Hyrox event in September, telling reporters on Friday the online abuse she received had been "emotionally and mentally taxing". The world record holder said she considered retiring amid the backlash. She has now issued a second apology, admitting she failed to think about those around her.

Wietrzyk told reporters: 'In hindsight, that was the wrong decision, and I am truly sorry for everyone I did affect.'

Hyrox organisers also faced criticism for allowing her to continue and have since changed their rules to prevent a repeat.

Wietrzyk's initial post-event social media apology described her as 'deeply sorry'.
