A five-year-old boy was stabbed to death and his two younger siblings, aged three and one, were left fighting for life after their mother allegedly attacked all three children in a parked car in Valley Heights, Blue Mountains, on Sunday afternoon. The 42-year-old woman, believed to be the Kenyan family's mother, then turned the knife on herself and was found with self-inflicted wounds. Passing cyclists discovered the horror scene with the car doors open and performed first aid while calling emergency services. Police say if she survives her injuries, she will face a homicide charge.
Eyewitness Julie Sukkar described finding a baby still strapped in a car seat and a second child on the other side of the vehicle.
The two surviving children, both under five, suffered stab wounds to their necks and remain in critical condition at Westmead children's hospital.
The children's father had been at work believing his wife was taking the children on a picnic when police called to tell him his son was dead.
