Her husband Phil Haines revealed her first waking moments, and independent MP Allegra Spender relayed them to parliament on Monday. Haines also thanked the nurses, first responders and bystanders who saved her. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called her 'a fighter' and has promised an urgent security package for MPs. Brendan Nugent, 43, is charged with intentionally causing serious injury and denies nothing yet in court.

Police are probing whether Haines was a 'proxy' for an attack on Nugent's family.

Nugent's family says they have been friends with Haines for more than 20 years.

Albanese told Labor MPs of 'vile threats towards you and your families'.
