Australian navy identifies a 'person of interest' over hidden camera found in women's showers aboard HMAS Leeuwin

A member of the Australian Defence Force is cooperating with Military Police after a hidden camera was discovered in the women's showers aboard HMAS Leeuwin, which is currently berthed in Cairns. Vice Admiral Matt Buckley called the incident an 'act of sexual violence' and a 'despicable betrayal of trust'. The ship is staying in Cairns while the Joint Military Police Unit conducts a rapid investigation and offers support to those crew members affected. The Royal Australian Navy has since ordered a comprehensive audit of every bathroom across its entire fleet.
Senator Jacqui Lambie, an ADF veteran, brought the scandal to light in the federal Senate after being approached by a former Navy member.
Vice Admiral Buckley says the Warrant Officer of the Navy has made the trip to Cairns personally to support the ship's company.
The case has not yet been referred to Queensland Police, prompting questions about why civilian authorities have so far been kept out of it.
