Award-winning grief campaigner, 52, is found dead on the Cornwall beach where her son, 18, died six years earlier

Charmaine Lyn George, a 52-year-old travel agent and grief campaigner from Pool, near Redruth, was discovered dead on the Lighthouse Hill shoreline at Portreath beach on October 5 after a passer-by raised a welfare alarm. She had spoken of that stretch of Cornish coastline as her son Ewan's 'happy place'. An inquest opened in Truro on October 22 was quickly cut short by assistant coroner Guy Davies; the medical cause of death has yet to be determined, and a full inquest is expected next year.
Ewan George, 18, was found dead beneath the same cliffs at Portreath in May 2020, having spent the night camping with friends; his inquest returned insufficient evidence of suicide.
Within a year of losing Ewan, Charmaine established a grief café and joined forces with the Good Grief Trust to launch Good Grief Pop Up Cafes across Cornwall and beyond.
In 2021 she won the Caroline Flack Mental Health Hero Award at the Who Cares Wins Awards; the Good Grief Trust said she was 'passionate to help others find vital support'.
