Award-winning grief campaigner was found dead on the Cornwall beach where her son, 18, died six years earlier

Charmaine Lyn George, 52, a travel agent turned bereavement campaigner from Islington, was found on the shoreline at Portreath beach by a member of the public on October 5, at the precise spot she had previously called Ewan's 'happy place'. Assistant coroner Guy Davies adjourned an inquest that opened in Truro on October 22 after just a brief hearing, with the medical cause of death still to be established and a full inquest expected next year. Police are not treating her death as suspicious.
Ewan, 18, was found dead at the foot of the cliffs at Portreath in May 2020 after spending a night camping with friends; his inquest returned insufficient evidence of suicide.
In the wake of Ewan's death, Charmaine founded a grief café and went on to receive the Caroline Flack Mental Health Hero Award at the Who Cares Wins Awards in 2021.
The Good Grief Trust described Charmaine as 'passionate to help others find vital support' even as she carried the pain of her own son's loss.
