Miguel suffered 41 separate bone fractures across at least four incidents before dying in Alder Hey Hospital five days after a final assault.
Lord Justice Baker said the couple subjected Miguel to 'routine' assaults escalating in severity, culminating in a 'particularly callous' murder.
Klevi Pirjani, 38, and his wife Nivalda Pirjani, 35, of Seacombe, Wirral, had each tried to blame the other for baby Miguel's death, but a jury unanimously convicted both of murder in October last year. Attorney General Ellie Reeves referred their original sentences to the Court of Appeal in April, where barristers argued the terms did not 'meet the justice of this terrible case'. Lord Justice Jeremy Baker, sitting with two fellow judges, found that the original terms 'significantly underestimated the aggravating factors' and raised Klevi's minimum to 21 years and six months and Nivalda's to 17 years and nine months.
Klevi wiped his eyes during the hearing, appearing by video link from HMP Wakefield; Nivalda was present from HMP Styal and showed little visible reaction as her sentence was increased.
