Tracey Connelly, 45, admitted to her parole panel on Tuesday that she has lied and deceived, accepting that descriptions of her as manipulative and opportunistic are fair. She told the hearing she "hated every minute" of listening to Baby P's family describe the "lifelong" pain caused by her 17-month-old son Peter's death in August 2007. The two-day public hearing, livestreamed from prison, will decide whether to free her or move her to an open prison.

Connelly was recalled to prison in August 2024 after secretly starting an online relationship without notifying her supervising officials.

Her parole case was adjourned last October for a further psychological assessment and a forensic examination of her mobile phone before Tuesday's resumed hearing.

She insisted she was not "skilful" at deceit, saying: 'They found out I was doing wrong and called me back — I'm back in prison.'
