Bank of England investigates Google outage that froze Revolut payments and halted court hearings across Britain

A 'power event' at a single Google datacentre in London triggered the disruption, taking down card payments, transfers and cash withdrawals at Revolut. More than 1,500 Revolut customers flagged problems on Downdetector. Google said 'we apologise to all who are affected' and that services were largely restored by 3pm. It will publish an analysis after its internal investigation.

HSBC, Lloyds and Royal Mail were also hit, and NHS app users reported glitches.

Court hearings were suspended when the courts' cloud video platform went offline.

Britons have been told to carry emergency cash after the banking app crash.
