Lloyds, HSBC and Rightmove were also reported down after a London data centre issue on Tuesday morning. More than 1,500 Revolut users had flagged problems on Downdetector by 8.09am. Card payments, transfers, ATM withdrawals and customer support were listed as 'partially unavailable'. Revolut insisted all customers' money and data were safe but gave no timeframe for a fix.

Revolut has around 13 million UK customers and 3.4 million in Ireland.

One stranded customer wrote: 'I'm in Greece on holiday. Revolut not working on three accounts.'

Santander's mobile banking app went down twice in a single week earlier this month.
