Abdul El-Sayed, the Democrat Obama will stump for in Detroit, attacked his presidency in a 2012 essay over unfulfilled progressive promises. Obama is first due in Cleveland alongside Sherrod Brown, who is trying to unseat Republican Senator Jon Husted. President Trump is set to hold a rival rally in Perry, Georgia, on Saturday evening. El-Sayed has since called Obama 'foundational' to his decision to run for office.

Undecided Black voters in Detroit called Obama's endorsement 'a turn off'.

El-Sayed won his primary by under a point, losing Detroit's Wayne County.
