BBC is to close BBC Three for a SECOND time alongside BBC Scotland and Radio 4 Extra in £500m cuts
Director-General Matt Brittin told staff the corporation must 'make every pound work harder' as all three lose their broadcast slots in spring 2027. Another 100 jobs are to go at BBC News. Reportedly, only about £200m of the £500m target has been found so far. Scottish Culture Secretary Mairi McAllan branded the BBC Scotland closure 'wholly unacceptable'.
The £32m BBC Scotland channel launched in 2019 and will move to iPlayer.
Its nightly 'News at Seven' bulletin will end altogether, with 10 Scottish jobs cut.
On its second night, the channel's flagship show 'The Nine' sometimes drew just 4,200 viewers.
