BBC is to shut BBC Three, BBC Scotland and Radio 4 Extra but is still not HALFWAY to its £500m target

Only about £200m has been saved so far, reportedly, so more cuts are coming. Scottish Culture Secretary Mairi McAllan called the closure 'wholly unacceptable' and will raise it with Ofcom. The £32million BBC Scotland channel launched only in 2019. Its nightly News at Seven will end when the channel closes in spring 2027.

Director-General Matt Brittin told staff: 'We all know that means tough choices.'

BBC Three is going off air for a second time, after moving online in 2016.

BBC Scotland's opening show, The Nine, drew as few as 4,200 viewers on its second night.
